If you are not an early riser, last Sunday just got kinder to you. Last Sunday happened to be the very first Sunday of November 2017, and the annual exercise of Daylight Saving Time (DST) just ensured that the clock is turned back by an hour. It means that if you were waking up at 7:00 am every day, the clock would show 6:00 am at your usual waking hour. Oh for that coveted extra hour of sleep. I hear you.
I am not an early riser myself and so this particular Sunday just made my day. It is funny however that DST is such a routine part of our lives but very few of us know the history and thought-process behind it.
Sometime in the 1700s the famous statesman, Benjamin Franklin proposed the idea of waking up an hour earlier to save on candles while he was travelling as a delegate in France. For once, every one of us, in our daily routines, without an inkling of awareness is literally taking a leaf out of the great mans diary! Unfortunately, though it seemed like a great idea, it was not until 1900s that DST was actually introduced in United States by Woodrow Wilson.
What is the logic anyway? Well, if people live near the equator, the day and night are nearly of the same length for about 12 hours. However, since we are closer to the North Pole, we get less daylight in winters. Still, the US. Department of Transportation wasnt sure if people like you and me liked the concept of DST and so they conducted a survey. Not surprisingly they found that we Americans liked Daylight Saving Time because “there is more light in the evenings and we can do so much more with our evenings.”
But when it gets to serving our customers we at Ourbus wouldnt take limitations, even if they are set by the transportation department. We go out of our way to ensure you are happy, offer flexibility to enable you to do whatever you wish to, day or night, darkness or light.
Do not forget to book your ticket today for expenses that are way lighter on your pocket along with flexible and active routes at all times to help you maximize the day!
And yes do remember to get off an hour early from work/college and enjoy the winter evenings with your family. Like we say, never fail to take advice on routine from the great man Benjamin Franklin himself!
